CIRCLE OF EIGHT MOD PACK 5.0.0 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!!! Installation Requirements: Atari's ToEE patch 2 includes all the fixes from patch 1, but there have been reports from people who experienced problems when they skipped patch 1. Therefore, we recommend installing it first, just to be on the safe side. It is available here: ftp://ftp.infogrames.net/patches/toee/TOEE_PATCH1_ENU.EXE After installing patch 1, install patch 2. It is available here: ftp://ftp.infogrames.net/patches/toee/TOEE_USA_ANY-PATCH2.EXE You SHOULD NOT install Atari's patch 3, since it's not compatible with this mod. Anyway, the only additional feature patch 3 contains is a fix for the infamous DirectX 9.0c looting bug. But this particular issue is also addressed by the Co8 Mod Pack. If you have installed patch 3 already and want to get rid of it, just install patch 2 on top of it. Microsoft's .NET Framework Version 2.0 is required for Agetian's Temple of Elemental Evil Front-End (see below). Get .NET here, if you haven't installed it via Windows Update already: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856eacb-4362-4b0d-8edd-aab15c5e04f5&DisplayLang=en IMPORTANT: YOU MUST START A NEW GAME WITH THIS MOD PACK. NO PREVIOUS SAVED GAMES WILL WORK. About the Temple of Elemental Evil Front-End: The Co8 Mod Pack comes bundled with Agetian's Temple of Elemental Evil Front-End (ToEEFE), which can be used to start the game with custom options. View TempleFrontend.rtf for more info. If you choose to use ToEEFE, the Co8 Mod Pack will be installed as a separate module. None of your original files will be modified or in any way tampered with. When you launch ToEEFE, you'll be able to choose between the original game version and the Co8 Mod Pack (as well as any other modules you may have installed). Note that ToEEFE needs to shuffle a few files around and create a copy of modules\ToEE.dat when you start the module for the first time, which requires ca. 300 MB of hard disk space. Don't forget to select the Co8 module in ToEEFE if you want to play the modded version of ToEE! If you don't want to use ToEEFE, the Setup Wizard will replace the file temple.dll and move the original file into the folder "backup". The Mod Pack data will "override" the original game data, i.e. next time you start ToEE, you'll be playing the modified Co8 version. ToEEFE integrates a variety of patches, like dulcaoin's ToEE PCCount Patcher and Drifter's Humble NPCs, as well as a button which allows you to disable/enable the intro movies. If you don't install ToEEFE, these features will still be available, but they'll be more complicated to use. The patches will be installed in the game's root directory, and you'll have to apply them manually. As for the intro movies, batch files will allow you to disable/enable them. About the level cap: The maximum level you could reach in the original game was 10. With the Co8 Mod Pack, the default level cap is set to 20 (you cannot go any higher!). If you want to lower the level cap, you have two possibilities: 1. If you're using ToEEFE: Just check the Max Level option and enter any value from 1 to 20 in the corresponding field. 2. If you're not using ToEEFE: You will need to edit the properties of your ToEE shortcut. For example, if you want to set the level cap back to 10, just right-click the shortcut icon, select "Properties", click the "Target" field and enter the following text: "C:\Program Files\Atari\Temple of Elemental Evil\TOEE.EXE" -maxlevel 10 Don't forget the space before -maxlevel 10. You will have to modify the file path if you have installed ToEE in a different folder, of course. If you want to go back to the default level cap (20), just remove the " -maxlevel 10" part. Note about uninstalling the Mod Pack when ToEEFE is used: Before you uninstall the Mod Pack, you should start ToEEFE, select the corresponding module (e.g. "Co8-5.0.0"), click on "Deactivate the Module", and then close ToEEFE again. Otherwise the Uninstaller might not work correctly.
